Girl Rising
Essential Questions
1. How can we support others who are strugling?
Just like we did we can raise more money and donate it to more people, or you could remember not to judge or discrimanate someone by their gender, race or nationality, and if you see someone else discrimanating tell them to stop and give them reasons and examples why.
2. How do cultural Beliefs and traditions influence a girl's life?
If a girl is living in a third world country they normally are forced to get married at a very young age. Also in most third world countries the people are poor and if a family is poor they might sell their daughter into prostitution to get money.
Learning Reflection
What are you currently learning about in Social Studies? Give some examples of what you have learned this unit.
We are learning about women’s rights and education. We have read ad presented about two articles we read about non equal rights for women and not being able to get educated. We also raised money and donated it to a cause that helps women start their ives, or have clean water, education etc.
What do you enjoy about this particular SS unit? Explain.
I liked learning about all the different things that happen to women around the world (but mostly in third world countries) and how people help stop them, and I also enjoyed learning about how many organizations are helping women get jobs, get an education ,and even clean water.
What do you find challenging about this particular SS unit? Explain.
I think the most challenging thing is not anything we had to do is things we had to learn, it was hard to believe that there are so many women dying because they don’t have clean water or because they give birth, or even because some men only give them a little food, so they starve.
What is something you have done well in this SS unit? Explain.
I think we had a good overall presentation, we had good content and supporting articles, we also provide a lot of information about our different topics, and taught the group a little more than what they knew.
What is something you would like to improve? Explain on how you plan to make improvements.
I would like to improve my presenting skills and try to memorize a little more of my presentation so I’m not always looking at the board. I plan to do this by rereading the project every night and then I will memorize it partly by the time I present.
