Essential Questions

1. How do population trends affect a countries future?

Depending on what type many different things can happen. If the country is growing  negatively there will be more old people than young. And the more old people that are retired cause pension rates to go up which means there will be a higher dependancy ratio, the young people working will have to support more old people causing taxes to go higher. Since there are less young people there will be less employees for buisneses to hire, causing them to close, or move to another country. There will also be less kids which means not as many schools will be needed so some will close causing teachers, principals ect. to lose their jobs. The less people in a country means the less people joining the millitary, which causes the millitary to be less powerful, which could cause another country to start a war with them and when they lose their will be no more France, Italy, Germany, whichever country.

2. How does the culture and history of Italy reflect on Modern art?

Many things from history are still being used or performed to this day. Thngs like the opera, and paintings. Paintings from the renaissance period and many others painted by Italian painters are still in meuseums today. The performing art of Opera that was discovered in Italy is still being preformed in many theatres to this day. Many traditions/recipes have also been passed down, like polenta, and pizza. But also different holidays like Ferragosto, a traditional holiday that celibrated the harvest, and the end of manual labor.

Learning Reflection

What are you currently learning about in Social Studies? Give some examples of what you have learned this unit.

Each Table Group got to pick a region of the orld they wanted to study, my group picked Europe and Russia. And then we got to picl a country and research about them, and even learn a traditional dance.

What do you enjoy about this particular SS unit?  Explain.

I liked researching and getting to know Italy better and also memorizing where each country in Europe is. Because it makes me feel smarter when I know more things about earth, and I like it.

What do you find challenging about this particular SS unit?  Explain.

I thought memorizing the traditional dance was very hard , because there were so many parts and you had to know when to start what part and when to end it.

What is something you have done well in this SS unit?  Explain.

Even though the dance was very hard to memorize, I think we did very well presenting it to the class, and we had a lot of fun too.

What is something you would like to improve?  Explain on how you plan to make improvements.

I would like to improve on my presenting even though I got a good grade I feel like I need to improve on keeping the audiences attention and memorizing my lines more so my words flow easier. I think I can accomplish this by not having a monotone and having an enerjetic energy while presenting and also maybe including the audience in the presentation. And a week before the presentation I will always go over my parts for 10 minutes each night so I feel more confident.

Polenta Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 1/2 cups polenta or coarsecornmeal

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano

Directions

In a large pot, boil 5 cups of water and the milk, add the polenta, along with a good amount of salt and pepper, and stir constantly for about 5 minutes.

Turn the heat down to low, partially cover the pot and allow the polenta to simmer for about 10 minutes, giving it a stir every 5 minutes; depending on the size of your polenta or cornmeal, it may take more or less cooking time to become creamy.

Turn the heat off, add the butter and cheese and give everything a good stir until the butter and cheese melt.
